- Alchemy is a vector graphics drawing program that aims to facilitate creativity and idea development.
- Dia
- Dia is a based diagram creation program released under the GPL license. Dia is capable of exporting graphics to several formats.
- Inkscape (forked from Sodipodi)
- A vector graphics editor released under the GNU General Public License. Its stated goal is to become a powerful graphics tool while being fully compliant with the XML, SVG and CSS standards. Has good multi-lingual support, particularly for complex text layout.
- Ipe
- A vector graphics editor for creating figures in PDF or EPS format. Can process LaTeX source code and import PDF figures.
- Karbon14 (formerly Kontour, which was formerly KIllustrator)
- Is a vector graphics editor, part of KOffice, the KDE office suite.
- NodeBox
- An application for programming 2D animation and graphics in Python. It runs on Mac OS X.
- OpenOffice.org Draw
- Currently OpenOffice.org supports exporting to SVG format officially, though with some limitations to be resolved. It also shares many features with Desktop publishing software.
- Scribus
- A desktop publishing application with SVG & PDF capabilities.
- sK1
- A fork of Skencil which continues to be developed using Tcl/Tk. Project has a lot of importers and exporters which are extracted as UniConvertor subproject.
- Skencil (formerly Sketch)
- A vector graphics editor implemented almost completely in Python.
- SVG-edit
- SVG-edit is a lightweight, web based, javascript-driven SVG editor that works in any modern browser.
- Synfig
- A 2D vector graphics and animation program intended to produce feature-film quality animation with fewer people and resources.
- Tgif
- A 2D drawing tool under X11 for Unix and Unix-like platforms. Note: has several quirks due to being developed long before many features common in many editors were standard.
- Xara Xtreme for Linux
- A 2D vector graphics editor created by the British software company Xara.
- Xfig
- A 2D drawing tool under X11 for Unix and Unix-like platforms. Xfig saves figures in its native Fig format, but they may be converted into various formats.

- WinFIG
- A 2D drawing tool under Windows. WinFIG started as an Xfig clone and saves figures in the Fig format, but supports various formats including PostScript and LaTeX. Like Xfig WinFIG is popular amongst users from the academic sector.
- Xara Xtreme
- A 2D vector graphics editor for the Windows platform, notable for its usability and fast renderer. Among vector editors, Xara Xtreme is considered to be fairly easy to learn, with similarities to CorelDRAW and Inkscape in terms of interface. It can open many popular file formats, and can export to many popular formats, including SVG.
- ZCubes
- A 2D and 3D online vector drawing and painting tool. Primarily supports IE. Firefox supported for viewing using SVG in most platforms.
